Women’s BMX Mixtape Vans BMX Pro Cup, Malaga 2017

May 23, 2017

Women’s full length/mixtape edit from Malaga is finally live! Here’s the link:

This is a rough two part edit I put together for the ladies of BMX and our time in Malaga, Spain at the Vans BMX Pro Cup May 5-7th, 2017. All footage was shot on iPhone 7 or a GoPro of some sort. The first part is highlights of each of us from both the regional qualifiers and women’s demo at the Skatepark of Malaga, and the second part is a little spot mission a group of us went on immediately after we rode in our demo. 15 year old Hannah Roberts made history becoming the first female to do a barspin AND tailwhip the legendary hook spot. Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible and for helping us all come together -Nina B

Vans BMX Pro Cup Malaga Coverage

May 8, 2017

First off I just want to give a HUGE shout out to the Vans BMX Pro Cup, and Skatepark of Malaga! Thank you for having us out, the support this event shows women in every aspect is unmatched, time on the course, media coverage, communication, I highly encourage every girl rider to attend any of their open qualifiers.

This past weekend in Malaga, Spain has been another one for the history books. We had twelve girls ride the regional qualifier and in the demo this morning.  Such good vibes all around, Shout out to announcers Darryl Nau, Steve Crandall and Ramon for all of the support gerring the crowd behind us  encouraging us to throw down.

I’m sure there will be more media coverage popping up, but wanted to share what we have found so far:

Trailer: Blood Warriors

May 2, 2017

Rosa Hughes sent over this trailer for a short film that she’s producing with Knowle West Media Centre in Bristol, UK.

“I ride my BMX everywhere I go, I want to make a film that captured how good it made feel. I also want change the perception of girls and riding.”

“A short film directed, written, and constructed by women, about women, exploring the trials and triumphs of pubescence, from biological transformations and their negative social connotations, to the unbreakable bond of female friendship. Blood Warriors is a coming-of-age exploration of the inevitable biological transition into womanhood and its social implications. When Stacy and her two friends are practicing at the local skatepark for the fast-approaching BMX competition, she is faced with a common dilemma, one that carries with it the weight of female shame. Dealing with her thrust into adulthood, she finds security in her own fantasy world of elaborate costume, and finds comfort in companionship. Will the drive to ride overcome the obstacles laid out by a world in which women seem inherently cursed? This short film is the culmination of a three month filmmaking training programme for women, run by Knowle West Media Centre, and funded by Creative Skillset.”

Watching the trailer has definitely caught my attention and I can’t wait to see the full project!

Keep up with the film’s progress and be the first to know when it premiers at various film festivals by liking their Facebook page.

If you can’t make it to one of those, keep your eye on our feed for when it’s released online!

Contest Results: The Kitchen Pro-Am

April 26, 2017

1st: Sarah Dinel 2nd: Caitlyn Rasiuk 3rd: Hailey Robbins

The Kitchen BMX and Skatepark in South Bend, Indiana put on their annual Pro-Am contest to benefit Scotty Cranmer’s recovery. As always they supported the ladies with a girl’s class and 10 shredders showed up to compete.
Congratulations to Sarah Dinel, Caitlyn Rasiuk, and Hailey Robbins for topping the podium!

While all this was happening 15 year old wonder girl Hannah Roberts took top honors against the expert boys class. I don’t even have words for how inspirational that is but if you’re a girl reading this you probably already know.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery from a best trick contest spill!
